Baltimore Housing’s Mission is to ensure that all citizens of Baltimore have access to adequate and affordable housing opportunities in safe, livable and decent neighborhoods.
Celebrating Life for the Dawson Family
Known as one of the worst tragedies in Baltimore’s history, on October 16,
2002, the home of Cornell and Angela Dawson was firebombed. The resulting fire
claimed the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Dawson and their five young children. As a result of
their tragic death, neighbors, community leaders, and faith-based groups worked together
with the city to erect a fitting monument to the Dawsons at 1401 E. Preston St. That
monument has become the Dawson Safe Haven for Children, Youth and Families.
Today, the center serves as a neighborhood based human service center, providing
emergency housing assistance, social service referrals, educational, job training
opportunities and much more.
